WHEN CAN MY CHILD START INVISALIGN?

As the #1 Invisalign Provider in North America, we strive to provide your family with quality care. If you have wondered about getting Invisalign for your child but were unsure of when would be appropriate, then read on!

How Soon Can Your Child Start Invisalign?

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that children have their first exam with an orthodontist at the age of 7. Depending on the severity of their dental issues kids could start orthodontic treatment between ages 6 to 10. This is called Phase 1 treatment and is still effective even if they still have some baby teeth.

The Importance of Phase 1 Treatment

Adult teeth typically start to come in around ages 6 to 7. Setting up orthodontic care at this age helps ensure that your child is developing properly. The doctor will monitor jaw and arch development to make sure that there is enough room for existing and incoming adult teeth. This phase jumps on any issues early enough to correct them as your child grows instead of trying to force set teeth to shift. If your child is showing signs of overcrowding, or over/underbites, then it can get fixed early on.

Children could start treatment at a later age. However, starting treatment at this age could be hugely beneficial to their development and set them up for amazing teeth as they grow. This will all depend on the child’s individual needs and maturity level. Invisalign does require consistency, so you will have to discern if your child will be responsible with their aligners and wear them as prescribed.

What is Invisalign First?

Invisalign First is specifically designed to treat “little smiles.” It is designed for comfort, so no pain like there typically is with traditional braces. Made for young children, it is a useful tool that orthodontists use to fix a myriad of problems and encourage proper dental development. Issues treated range in complexity and include but are not limited to:

  • Crowding
  • Spacing
  • Narrow Dental Arches
  • Protection From Teeth Grinding
  • Jaw misalignment

While using Invisalign First, children can learn proper dental hygiene without having to work around clunky braces. If they are a picky eater or have dietary restrictions, they can still eat whatever they can on Invisalign. Retainers just have to be removed first and teeth should be brushed before wearing again.

Invisalign also requires less time in the doctor’s office, so your little one can continue to be an active child without getting interrupted too often. Invisalign is completely customized to your child.

What Is NVO’s Process For Getting Invisalign?

Start with a complimentary evaluation at any of our four locations. Your doctor will come up with a treatment plan that is completely custom to your child’s needs.

At our Invisalign Studio, your child will receive a digital scan of their mouth using our state-of-the-art iTero scanner. You will be able to see the progression of treatment through a digital simulation that shows how their smile will transform after Invisalign. Their doctor will discuss treatment and you will receive the first set of aligners about 4 weeks after the initial scan. New trays will come in the mail after that per the treatment plan. There are some checkups with Invisalign but not as many as there are with traditional braces, making Invisalign significantly more convenient.
