Look Better. Feel Better.

Once you have braces, it’s important to know how to take care of them!

What Not to Eat

There are certain foods you should avoid, as they could damage your new appliance:

  • Chewy food such as bagels and licorice
  • Crunchy foods like popcorn, chips, and ice
  • Sticky foods like gum and chewy candies
  • Hard foods such as nuts and hard candies
  • Foods that you bite into like corn on the cob, apples and raw carrots

Loose Teeth? No Problem!

If your teeth feel a little loose that’s perfectly normal. Your braces must first loosen your teeth to be able to move them into the right position.

Play Ball!

You can even play sports in braces, as long as you wear a mouth guard designed to protect your teeth as well as your appliance. We offer the latest performance mouthwear from Under Armour. Ask your clinical assistant about how to get yours.

Dealing with Discomfort

As you adjust to your new appliance, your mouth may be a bit tender or sore for a few days. We recommend an over the counter pain reliever or swishing with a lukewarm saltwater. Also, don’t forget to use wax if your lips or cheeks are feeling a bit irritated.

Handle with Care

Be careful with your appliances. If you have a loose or broken appliance, contact us and our patient care specialist will recommend the best treatment care for your situation.
