Dr. Itani grew up in Erie, Pennsylvania with parents, three younger brothers and a family dog. She always knew she wanted to work in healthcare because she wanted to do something that made a positive impact on people’s lives. During a summer in college, Dr. Itani got jobs at a few healthcare offices, including one at the office of a pediatric dentist and orthodontist. After one day on the job, she knew orthodontics was the field for her! She loves the relationships you form with patients and knew that she would be able to apply her artistic nature, attention to detail to truly change people’s lives.
Dr. Itani attended Georgetown University where she majored in Human Science and Cognitive Science. She received her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from University of Maryland School of Dentistry, graduating with Magna Cum Laude honors and as salutatorian of her class. Dr. Itani was also inducted into the Gamma Pi Delta Honor Society, Gorgas Odontological Honorary Society, and Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society.
During her orthodontic residency at the University of Maryland, she completed a degree in Biomedical Sciences as well and was inducted into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, an invitation-only honor society and requires nomination approval by a chapter. Not only did she have leadership involvement in the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO), she was elected Chief Resident of her orthodontic residency two years in a row. The first resident in the history of the program to do so.
Outside of the practice, you will most likely find Dr. Itani on the Peloton or at the gym, trying out a new recipe, having a game night with friends, or going for a run or bike ride in DC. She also enjoys eating at new restaurants, and especially loves finding unique, little places with specialty coffee or fancy cocktails.
Dr. Itani is also passionate about volunteering, especially with children. She has volunteered with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Ronald McDonald House Charities, numerous health fairs, and multiple Mission of Mercy events which provides free dental services to underserved populations.
