Invisalign For Kids Ages 7 to 12

If you have a child between the ages of 7 and 12 with dental issues, they don’t have to wait until all their adult teeth are in to start treatment. Treatment for this age group is commonly referred to as Phase 1 Treatment.  At NVO, we use Invisalign First aligners designed specifically for Phase 1 smiles.

What is Invisalign First?

Invisalign First aligners are designed to be used for Phase 1 treatment. These aligners assist our doctors in treating a broad spectrum of teeth straightening issues. Your child’s developing jaw will have room for existing and future teeth without the pain of poking wires, metal brackets, and lifestyle limitations that traditional braces come with.

Issues Invisalign First can treat

The main benefit of Invisalign First is getting ahead of future developmental problems. Some of these could cause your child social stress or actual physical pain if not addressed.

  1. Over or underbite
  2. Crowded teeth
  3. Gaps between teeth
  4.  Narrow dental arches

These problems will be corrected before your child’s mouth has the time to develop into a more severe problem.

NVO Customizations

At NVO, we have two exciting options for your child to make sure they get the most out of their Invisalign First aligners: Chewies and Stickables.

Chewies are a device that goes in the space between your child’s aligners and their teeth. If your child’s aligners are not fitting completely perfectly, this device helps make them more comfortable and effective.

If your child loves to express themselves and is upset that they won’t get the colorful bands that come with traditional braces, Stickables are a fun option! There are a multitude of stickers they can choose from that will match their style and express their personality.

Best for Mature Children

If you think this sounds like a viable option for your child, keep in mind that Invisalign comes with a need for responsibility. While we have found that our pediatric patients keep up with their aligners better than most adult patients, you know your child best. Aligners are worn 22 hours per day, so you’ll need to make sure your child is able to keep up with them while they are at school.  They need to be cleaned properly with a soft toothbrush and lukewarm water every time they are removed. At NVO we provide a case to store them in when they are not being worn, but it is up to you and your child to make sure they do not get lost or broken.
