They may decide to have your child wear a previous set of aligners, go ahead to the next set, or order replacements. This will depend on the treatment plan specific to your child and the progress they have made.

Since Invisalign aligners are considered prescription items, the order must come from your child’s orthodontist. You will not be able to order a set yourself. The sooner you can let your orthodontist know, the sooner your child can continue treatment.  

Replacements Can Be Expensive

Invisalign does have a warranty program. Although rare, if you find that your aligners have a defect in material or workmanship, this warranty program will cover those replacements.

As for lost aligners, replacements could cost between $75 and $300. Ask your orthodontist how much a replacement would be for a more concise price.

Steps to Avoid Needing a Replacement

There are steps you can take to make sure your child’s aligners last. Incorporate these into your Invisalign routine to ensure that you get the most out of each tray.

1. Always put aligners in the NVO-provided case when they are not worn
2. Keep aligners away from pets, hot water, pockets, washing machines, hot cars, and napkins
3. After every removal, clean aligners with a soft toothbrush and lukewarm water

After a few weeks, these steps will become habits and you and your child will be at a lower risk of losing the aligners.
